April 2008
Well, Turtle and I are out on the ‘California Run’ for this month. Last week, I competed at San Francisco, CA and Logandale, NV. I am running Shadow, although I had planned on running Kat originally. I send Kat home to rest and heal up from a sore back and rear suspensaries. I hope to have him back out here on the trail soon, but for now, Shadow is taking the whole load. He is such a campaigner! San Francisco was such a tough rodeo, and I didn’t draw a check there, although Shadow ran really nice. Logandale was a little more prosperous; we did draw some small checks. I had Shadow shod there, and I didn’t have any St. Croix Aluminum Racing Plates, so I used some Lite Rims. Shadow seemed to slip on the ground, and I am switching to the Racing Plates for the remainder of the California Run, as the ground can be shifty out here.
Over the next few weeks, I will run at the Tour Rodeos in Red Bluff, CA, Clovis, CA, and then finish the Tour in Guymon, OK. It feels like this could be a dry spring in California, so that will be nice for barrel racing! I also have my mom’s 6 yo Jesse with me, and I love him! He feels like a good one, and you can bet that I will be trying my hardest to get him ‘Rodeo Ready’ as soon as possible! I have been trying to be patient and just practicing him at different arenas and working on techniques that will help him to hopefully become a very versatile horse.
Happy Trails and Good luck!
